animal preserve

on thursday for my water based media class we went to a local animal preserve.  mostly it was just sad animals in large cages.  the site used to be the center for disease control where they worked on treating syphilis.

the top right corner is my favorite part of the piece.  i have to work on getting more ritch pooling of color like that in the future.

there is an odd story behind this boat being at the animal preserve.  one of the men who works there was traveling across the country in his 20s on this boat.  while in savannah the boat sank twice the second time being right at the animal preserve.  while staying in savannah he met a woman, fell in love, now they are 70.  to me the boat in this picture symbolizes a journeys end.

red lantern girls

the horses and other animals that get merged in with my teramorphic landscapes are some form of reference to my grandfather who spent a great deal of time painting the outdoors and wildlife.  i have a love of the outdoors but i have a very limited first hand experience with it so these creatures and places take on a mystical quality.  there is something unattainable about them.

watercolors

these are from my exploration of water based media class i am taking, i am glad to be working with watercolors again.
here are some Max Ernst like landscapes i nocked out, the symbolism for me is quite a bit diferent though.  the figures bound in stone speek of a unification with the earth.  even the long skiny pillars are much like sky scrapers if they were filled solid and then eroded over time with the wind.
